Trailer, Boat & Vehicle Covers buying guide
Trailer tarpaulins and lorry tarpaulins take more wind than any other cover, because they travel. A trailer or boat cover has to stay tight at speed, resist rubbing on edges and keep the load dry. That is why this range leans towards heavy duty polyethylene and PVC.
Covers for trailers and lorry loads
The 610gsm PVC tarpaulin with shock cord has 8mm shock cord through every eyelet, so you stretch it over the load and it grips. The 560gsm PVC tarpaulin has 20mm brass eyelets every 50cm for roping down. For a lighter sheet, the 270gsm black and silver tarpaulin also has eyelets every 50cm.
Boat covers
For winter storage, use 270gsm or the 350gsm blue and beige tarpaulin. Support the sheet so rain runs off and cannot pool, and leave a gap for air at each end. PVC, such as the 570gsm PVC tarpaulin, suits covers that stay on for years.
Cars, caravans and classic vehicles
The 140gsm silver tarpaulin reflects heat off paintwork. For long-term storage, the 18oz cotton canvas tarpaulin and the 21oz cotton canvas tarpaulin breathe, which cuts condensation under the cover.
Securing a load
A sheet keeps the weather off. Straps or rope hold the load. Use both. Protect the sheet where it crosses a sharp edge with corner protectors, and tie down with lorry rope or shock cord. For open loads, see skip nets.
