Roofing & Construction Tarpaulins buying guide

Quick answers

What gsm tarpaulin is best for a roof?

Use 185gsm to 200gsm for a repair that lasts a few days. Use 250gsm to 270gsm for a re-roof or weeks of exposure. Use 350gsm on a long job or an exposed site.

How long can a tarpaulin stay on a roof?

A tarpaulin is a temporary fix. A heavy duty sheet that is fitted tight will cope with weeks of weather, but check it after strong wind and get the roof repaired as soon as you can.

What size roof tarpaulin do I need?

Measure the damaged area, then allow a generous overlap on every side and enough length to reach over the ridge. Choose the nearest size up.

Do I need a flame retardant tarpaulin on scaffolding?

Many sites and insurers ask for flame retardant sheeting on scaffolds. Check your site rules. Our 200gsm flame retardant sheet is certified to CPAI 84 Section 6.

What is scaffold sheeting?

It is reinforced polyethylene on a roll that wraps a scaffold to keep wind and rain off the work. Our clear sheeting also lets daylight through.
