350gsm & Above Tarpaulins buying guide
350gsm tarpaulins and above are for covers that work hard every day. The range starts with 350gsm five-layer polyethylene and runs to 560gsm, 570gsm and 610gsm PVC-coated polyester. Choose these when a standard heavy duty sheet will not last.
Polyethylene or PVC at this weight?
The 350gsm sheet is the strongest woven polyethylene we stock. From 560gsm up, the material changes to a woven polyester base with a PVC coating. PVC is heavier and more flexible, and it resists abrasion better. That is why hauliers and farmers use it for covers that go on and off every day.
The range by weight
350gsm blue and beige
The 350gsm blue and beige tarpaulin has a 16x16 weave and five-layer polyethylene construction. It comes in eight sizes from 2m x 2.5m to 13m x 17m.
560gsm PVC
The 560gsm PVC tarpaulin comes in green or blue with 20mm brass eyelets every 50cm. There are ten sizes, from 1.3m x 1.9m to 10m x 14m.
570gsm PVC
The 570gsm PVC tarpaulin comes in forest green or blue. It has a polyester base with PVC on both sides and steel eyelets. Its eight sizes run from 4m x 3m to 10m x 12m.
610gsm PVC
The 610gsm green PVC tarpaulin is the heaviest sheet we sell, in seven sizes from 3.5m x 2.75m to 10m x 6m. These are cut sizes, so the finished sheet is slightly smaller. The 610gsm PVC tarpaulin with shock cord has brass eyelets every metre and 8mm shock cord through every eyelet, ready to stretch over a trailer or load.
Handling a heavy tarpaulin
Large sizes need two people. Fold the sheet instead of dragging it, and protect it where it meets sharp edges with corner protectors. Tie down with rope or shock cord.
